Why Yucaipa?
Growth and Development
Throughout the last decade, Yucaipa and surrounding areas have seen growth and expansion to accommodate new residents moving from Los Angeles and Orange County. This presents an opportunity to introduce or reintroduce the Gospel to new and older residents alike.
People
The Lord’s church will never cease multiplying through disciple-making until his kingdom comes. Every generation of the church is challenged by its unique cultural context to envision how truth and love are to be brought into the fabric of the culture by local communities of Jesus followers. Zach and Jade have longstanding relationships and a deep network of friends and family in the Yucaipa area who are hungry for how God wants to influence the city through them. Zach and Jade have sensed a deep call to lead, model, and train this generation of the church in the new and old ways God intends to bring his kingdom in Yucaipa as it is in heaven in 2024 and beyond.
Homecoming
Pastor Zach, originally from Yucaipa, grew up playing sports and attending church in the city. During his later high school years, he rebelled against his Christian upbringing to give himself over to surfing, snowboarding, and partying which culminated with a spiritual awakening in his early twenties which lead him back to his roots. After serving at a local church in pastoral ministry for almost a decade, he pursued a graduate theological education in Seminary and completed a church planting residency in San Diego. Now, nearly three years later, he and his family are answering God's call to establish a gospel-centered and discipleship-driven church in his hometown.
Defining Characteristics
of Our Church
Generously Orthodox
We adhere to the historic teachings of the Christian Church, which grounds our beliefs on the authority of Scripture, the Trinity, the incarnation, salvation, resurrection, judgment, human sexuality, marriage, gender, the social justice imagined by the biblical prophets, and racial reconciliation. We seek to contend for historic orthodoxy while also engaging with others respectfully and kindly, seeking to reach those with different perspectives while upholding our beliefs.
Desperately Charismatic
We seek the active presence, work, and power of the Holy Spirit in the individual life of a disciple and in the corporate community of believers just as it was during the time of the New Testament. Our desire, as a community, is to walk in the empowerment of the Spirit for discipleship, to cultivate a community that practices the spiritual gifts, to offer vibrant and expressive forms of embodied worship and prayer, and to experience healing and deliverance from physical and spiritual maladies.
Intentionally Contemplative
We believe that Jesus did not only save us from the punishment due for our sins but that he also saved us into a flourishing and wholistic life where we are formed into the image of Jesus. Our goal is to see each apprentice of Jesus cultivate a deep and substantive inner life that takes seriously the lifestyle that Jesus modeled; a life that prioritizes sabbath rest, silence and solitude, personal reflection, a meditative approach to the Scriptures, different forms of prayer, and seeking a direct experience of God’s presence.
Deeply Incarnational
We embody a ministry philosophy that seeks to imitate the example of Jesus Christ, who "became flesh and made his dwelling among us" (John 1:14). It involves intentionally engaging with people in their physical, social, and cultural contexts, just as Jesus did during His earthly ministry. We place a premium on deeply committed relationships in community and aim to bring the transformative love and message of the gospel into everyday realities.
